HALL PROGRESS REPORT

Finances
We are continuing to make progress with balancing our finances, however due to the substantial increases in energy costs it is proving difficult to maintain such reasonable hire charges for our users without compromising on other spending.
Our running costs still exceed income by a few hundred pounds and we are extremely grateful to our fundraising committee who work so hard to provide the funds to plug this shortfall.

Replacing the wooden windows
This has been a somewhat tortuous process for everyone involved including a change of supplier BUT the new windows have now been fitted at a cost of just over £9,500! HOORAY!

Our sincere thanks go to Martin Palmer and John Goodman for the production of the drawings required for planning permission, and also to our anonymous donor for the funds.

Chairs and Tables

If you have visited the hall in the last few months you will have noticed that we have 200 sparkling new folding chairs on trolleys in the hall.

The £7,666 for these came from fundraising income and they take up much less space (and are more comfortable!) than the plastic chairs we had previously. We also wish to replace the tables as some of these are damaged and becoming unstable, however, we do not currently have the funds for this (about £4,500).

Toilet refurbishment

Again this has been a slow process but progress is being made. Plans have been finalised, tenders sought and we are now applying for grants to cover the huge cost of the project (over £60,000!).
Many of the grant bodies prefer it if applicants have found some funding from other sources, so if you would like to make a donation, however small (or large!), to this cause then please contact our treasurer, Jeanette Odds on 510850.
The plans involve a complete re-organisation of the toilets to include a separate toilet for wheelchair users and new male and female facilities. The design of the new facilities also caters for perambulatory and visually disabled users, and includes many environmentally friendly features.

Small Hall Fire Exit

This has been moved to the northeast wall so that it no longer opens into the car park where people were constantly parking in front of it compromising safety.
Fundraising News

The following events were held during 2006:
Car Boot Sales at MK Eventing Centre in April and Sept - our first car boot sale proved to be a huge success raising £833, the second a slightly disappointing £535 due to problems with our advertising in the Citizen.
Our Pink and Black Nite at Woad Farm had a disappointing turn out and only made £356. We will be organising a different summer event at the hall this year - see Future Events. We are very grateful to Nigel for letting us use Woad Farm for these events and may return there in the future.
Our Grand Draw, which was drawn at the Pink and Black Nite raised a whopping £1,015. We are extremely grateful to all the local businesses who donated prizes to us, and will be giving them the year off in 2007.
Our third Wine Tasting evening in conjunction with Hanslope Wines and Hanslope Entertainments Group was as popular as ever and raised £561.
Our stall at the Hansiope Street Fayre in September proved very popular and raised £308.

After paying for moving the small hall fire exit and the new chairs we have spent all the funds brought forward from 2005 and all the money raised at the above events and have no fundraising monies left!
We therefore need all the support that you can give to the hall so that we can fund further improvements - we really do need the money!

Volunteers

The village hall is managed by a group of volunteers who all give up substantial amounts of their time and energy to keep the hall running for the village. We always need additional help - do you have the expertise, experience or just the desire to help with any of the following:

delivering flyers etc;
weeding round the car park and fire exits;
health & safety regulations;
fund-raising - from generating ideas to organising events;
making grant applications;
general maintenance;
sell raffle or event tickets.

If you think you (or anyone you know) can help with these tasks (or can do anything else which you think might be useful to the village hall) then please join our volunteers list - see our contact details.

Village Diary

A Village Diary is kept in the Newspaper shop.
Please use it to record dates of village events.
Hopefully this will reduce clashes between village organisations.

Wine tasting

November 2007
The date and theme are yet to be confirmed but due to popular demand we intend to run another wine tasting evening in November with the assistance of Hanslope Wines and Entertainments Group.
Keep an eye out for posters nearer to the time or register your interest now by email and we'll let you know when tickets are available.
