Under 10’s match next week against Brook End Colts

I have been told that half of the team will not be available to play the match as they will be away on a Cubs sleep over aboard HMS Belfast, lucky lads.
I have contacted the league to let them know and I am trying to contact their Manager to re-arrange another date for this match.
I will let you all know what ends up being agreed upon shortly.

HHFC U10’s v Syresham
18/11/06
Captain: Luci

First of all before we start to think about the match I would like to welcome Liam to the team. He played in the friendly last week and performed well enough to be given the chance to join the other lads in the Hornets team who play in the matches at weekends. We are looking now for some good improvements from Liam to strengthen up the squad for the remaining matches in the 2006/7 season.

We started to think that we wouldn’t have a team to play for us with 5 minutes to go before kick off .6 players turned up on time with the others down to play rolling up late. Late nights before a match, going out drinking and giving it large (I’ve heard that is a phrase that the lads use these days, not too sure what it means but it can’t be that bad, I hope) is a fine at the big clubs in the Premier League. We must get to games on time so we can warm up those muscles before we start kicking a ball around for an hour.

Well we had a team now ready to face Syresham on a very nice muddy pitch. We lost the toss and ended up playing up the slope, hard work was in front of us.
Dan was in goal with Ben B, Ben P and Luci in front of him leaving James, Matt and Nathan up front. Gregor and Liam were on the side waiting to go on for anyone who had tired legs.

We started well making lots of attacks on their goal, good passing in front of goal and plenty of shots on target, took a little while to break through their defence but it did eventually come. Matt took his chance well and hit the back of the net 1-0 to HHFC.

While all of the attacking up hill dominated most of the first half, Syresham was also making some very good break through’s from mid field. But they came across 3 very good defenders on the day, nothing was getting passed the Ben’s and Luci show today. Ben B was playing an absolute blinder , nothing was going to hold him back in this game. Ben P was covering the centre and dropping across to fill the slots left by Ben B and Luci as the went forward. Poor old Dan could have taken his homework with him to complete as he didn’t really have too much to do. But when he was called upon to make a save or clear the ball forward he kept his concentration well and did everything asked of him. We made plenty of good attacks but could get nothing to show for all of our efforts. James was playing a very clever game today, picking the ball up half way and making some very good passes and some excellent corner kicks came in. Nathan and Matt very putting in some good work also but ended up with nothing to show for it.

Now let me remind you people of a Brazil v England match, for what was about to happen for HHFC had already happened for Brazil. The guy with the big teeth, no not Alfie, Ronoldinho remember that “was it a cross or was it a shot” that went over the top of David Seaman. We had the same thing coming, James was out in the top left hand corner and hit a ball that went nice and high that had some curve on it. You could see what was going to happen and the only question was is the goalie going to get back in time to stop it? I am pleased to report that he didn’t and James claimed a super game. 2-0 to HHFC.

Half time came around quickly as all of the action made time go by very fast. A well deserved rest for a couple of minutes and time to take on some water. It had been going very well so no complaints to make. We started the second half with the team that came off and the intention was to make lots of subs during the next session to keep fresh legs out there and hopefully keep the lead and win this game. Playing down the slope makes attacks better but you still have to run up the slope to get back into position to defend.

We had to cover the centre circle well today as we had come up against a goalie with a very good kick and we had to make sure that we got every ball or they would be away on an attack. Ben B picked up a ball from the centre circle and just kept going forward and ended up finding the back of the net 3-0 to HHFC.

Nathan came off for a well deserved rest so with Ben B’s success in mind I pushed him up front giving Liam a chance to come on in defence. Our forwards went on some very good attacking raids working together well and just missing out on some more goals. We had lots of rolling subs in the second half and I had started to move the lads around in different positions to what they would normally play in, good experience for them to gain. Matt came back into defence making way for Luci to go forward, also we pulled Dan out of goal putting him up front replacing him with Ben B. Boy did the fireworks start to go off, the lads did everything asked of them and some more. Gregor had been playing in defence this week rather than up front where he would normally play, also last week in the friendly he played in goal for us so he had now experienced almost every position on the pitch (not many could that so a well done to Gregor). With only the 2 subs this week to make use of, everyone had worked that extra bit harder for the team and had played out of position for some of the match. That is a good thing to know as a manager, should we get injuries, people ill not available for games then I now know who can perform out of position.

All we now have to do is get some of the lads playing like they did last season (Nathan was a top scorer last term but is going through a Rooney period right now but like the big man Nathan is still going forward and doing the right things and very soon it will all come back for him so Jason be prepared to make some payments out soon).

After a brilliant well fought match today the lads had to pick their Man Of The Match. Not easy today as they had all done well, but Ben B ended up with the title winning by just 1 vote from James. Play the way you did today James in the next match and you must get the title of Man Of The Match.

Well done guys a most enjoyable match to watch and Syresham gave us a real good game. If we get a slot with no matches I would like to arrange a friendly with them as they are a nice club to play against. They like us know the meaning of Fairplay and you will always get a good honest match with them.

11th November 2006
Under 10’s Friendly Match v Deanshanger
Captain: Gregor

A good chance to see what the lads who do not normally play can do, we need to have a few more registered so this was a great chance available to us.

The team for today was:
Gregor in goal, Tom at left back, Bradley at right back, Liam at central defence, Kiran at mid field, Dan up front with Luci leaving us Jack and Karl as our subs to swap with the guys up front.

Everyone was very keen and turned nice and early for the game ready to go through the warming up routines and collect their Hornets strip.

We started the first half very well and defended our goal in excellent style. Deanshanger had a very competitive team out today, meaning business from the start.

The new lads playing their first match for the Hornets put on a very good show for us shaking of early nerves and getting their heads down with some hard work.

The lads in defence had to be good or we would have had a few goals put against us.
Tom excelled at left back and produced some fine footwork and runs up the left wing.
Liam settled very well into his roll in front of the defence and covered others when they got pulled out of position.

Brad covered his right back position and even made some good runs up the right side feeding the ball through to the guys up front.

Kiran played an absolute blinder behind the forwards, some very good dribbling and getting passed the defenders feeding some good crosses over to the other in front of goal.

Dan and Luci played well together up front with some very good one two’s and some excellent shots on goal. Sadly Deanshangers goalie played very well and managed to keep a clean sheet.

After 15 minutes Dan and Luci gave way to Jack and Karl who were keen to make an impression on the game. We needed to get a goal before half time to settle the game down.

After about 20 minutes Deanshanger made a break and got in front of our goal then took a good shot which Gregor could not keep out. Sadly Hornets were now 0-1 down.

Hornets kept their heads up high and carried on from they had left of, this was not a one sided game. Jack and Karl started to get involved and made some fine attempts to get the ball forward in front of the Deanshanger goal but sadly could not hit the back of the net.

Half time came and we tried to old orange trick to see if that would help them to score that deserved goal we needed. We kept the same team together to start off the second half and carryon where we had left off from the first half.
We started of quite well making some good efforts all around the park but still couldn’t find the back of the net.
Again Deanshanger made a good break down the middle and caught the defence out then struck a fine second goal. Hornets were now 0-2 down with lots to do.

Dan and Luci came back on for Karl and Jack to see if they could do any better, we needed to get back a goal quick to give us a chance to pull this one off.

With some good work coming from the back Kiran made another good attack up the middle and hit the ball up to Dan who took a solid shot at goal which the keeper couldn’t hold and the ball just crossed over the line. Hornets were now 1-2 down with a chance to get back on even terms with Deanshanger.

This made the game much more exciting now; we could draw level with some hard work. But Deanshanger would not take this too well and ended up coming back at us with a very good attack from the left side and made a good cross to their captain who struck a superb shot at our goal and put Deanshanger 1-3 in front.
Hornets started to make some quick rolling subs to try to keep fresh legs on the pitch and get back into this game. Jack came back on to try his luck but still failed to find the goal. Luci took the ball up passed a couple of defenders and got clear to hit home a very well taken goal bring the game to 2-3 down.

That ended up being the score today, nothing to be ashamed of as we played very well with a team playing their first game on a big pitch against a well drilled Deanshanger.

Both Alfie and I were very pleased with what we had seen. I am sure the Mums and Dads with Grand Parents and friends who turned up on this cold morning to watch this game went home happy. There was lots of shouting from the side lines giving the lads some good encouragement to do well.

Everyone who played had a good time and you should be proud of your first game together, we have some good little players coming through to bulk up our squad.

When we have another free weekend from league and cup games I’ll try to sort out another friendly for us, it can only get better with practice……………………

4th November 2006

HHFC V City Colts Eagles– League Cup Round 1
Captain– Daniel

Our first step into a knock out cup competition, and only 8 players available to select from. It’s a cold morning with lots of ground frost, I got there at 8.45 and started to sweep the frost off of the nice white lines laid down, took half an hour but seemed worthwhile. The biggest laugh of all – by the time we got to kick off all of the frost had melted and there was a lovely marked out pitch waiting for us to play on – lesson 1 learnt!!

Most of the lads were asked to play out of position this week in the hope that we might pull off a result.

Dan-old safe hands took his place in goal, James had to come back into centre of defence with Ben P dropping over to right back and Luci covering left back. Up front Matt had to drop back into James’ usual position behind the front men, leaving Nathan and Gregor as the strike force, Bradley was asked this week to be a forward player rather than cover in Defence. That’s the team we had to get us into round 2 and do us proud.

The plan was to defend as well as we could and keep them out and ensure that the guys up front were well supported with forward passes. The plan went well and everyone did great jobs in their allotted positions.

We were up and down that pitch like a fiddlers elbow, the front guys doing some very good work but nothing to show for their efforts. At about 20 minutes City Colts were given a penalty, Dan doing a superb save at the feet of their striker who ended up on his back. Got to admit their penalty was taken in text book style, hard low and right in the corner just out of reach of Dan’s out stretched arms. 0-1 down, but still time to do something.

Half time came still being the one goal down. Oranges and a chat about what we would do playing down the slope got the lads going again. Without many minutes played Matt hit home the equaliser, just what we needed to get us going again. A brilliant bit of rolling substitution happened next when Brad came off to have a well earnt rest before going back on again and Gregor went back on to take up a strike position. Now I’m not sure who was more surprised when within a minute Gregor put the ball in the back of the net – we were in front 2-1.

This got the lads really moving and getting more shots on target, and then we got the chance to take a penalty. Up stepped James and placed the ball on the spot, calmly walked back turned and cracked a perfect shot with plenty of power behind it, straight into the back of the net in true Shearer style 3-1 to the Hornets.

Shortly afterward another attack went forward, Gregor was doing some good goal poaching and ended up getting his second goal of the day – 4-1 to the Hornets.

City colts gave a good game and were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, but lady luck was on the Hornets side today. A good all round performance from the team today, everyone doing what was asked of them. Let’s now wait to see who we draw in Round 2.

The lads picked Gregor as their man of the match for 2 well taken goals; he will be our captain at our next match against Deanshanger next Saturday.

Well done guys and lets keep up the good work we have all done this season so far.

League Cup Match - Round 1

Playing at Home on 4th November (Time to be arranged)
HHFC v City Colts Eagles

Under 10’s B squad update:

A friendly match has been arranged with Deanshanger for Saturday 11. November (time and place to be confirmed later but I will offer the village school as a possible venue.)

I will need the guys who are not registered with the League and do not play in the Under 10’s matches.

If you have not returned your HHFC registration form and paid your £30 please do as soon as I will not be able to play your child in this match.

Please let me know if you cannot make this date.

As said before, I am looking for some extra players to register with the League so I can use more players at our Division 4 games; this is a good chance to shine guys.

Friendly Match against Deanshanger

I spoke to their Under 10’s Team Manager the other night who is in the same position as HHFC with player’s who are not registered with the league but turn up for training each week. We are trying to arrange a game for a Saturday morning some time between now and our next league fixture in November. Not sure if we go there or they come to us, I’ll let you know what is happening shortly.
I will let you all know what team I want to put out later, this will give some of our registered players who do not play a whole game the chance to do so and those who want the experience to play a game also the opportunity to do so.

I need to get some more players registered with the league so they can play in the matches. This will mean that there will be more players fighting for places rather than just turning up for a game. You will have to play hard to earn your place.

Match Report 21/10/06

Southside Stingrays v HHFC
Captain: Matthew Pickard

What a difference a week makes in football, last week we had a team of players who could do no wrong, this week…………………………………???????

Same names, same faces but a different team playing this game today.

I won’t go too deeply into how the game went this week but just say that we forgot how to play as a team. Last week we all worked for each other, this week for most of the game I thought we didn’t know each other, we were playing as strangers.

The guys up front must work together better and pass to each other, pass and run into space to get the ball back. This way we work our way down the pitch and end up in front of goal giving us a chance to take a shot. We can do it because I’ve seen you do it, and score goals. Poor old Nathan must have a sore throat from all of the calling he was making for the ball to be passed to him.

Defence must also work together better, cover each other when we drop out of position and most importantly protect our goal. We have worked on it in training with the cones on the pitch, so we know what area we have to cover and where to go if someone get’s pulled out of position.

This was a very frustrating game to watch from the side, we where evenly matched with Southside but they worked us out better than we did them. They knew that our defence was not working correctly so they played lots of 1 2’s running between our players.

They had endless amounts of shots on target, thankfully Dan played a very good game for us today in goal. He made some very brave saves at player’s feet and kept his game going when they ended up scoring against us. Many times it was Dan against 2 attackers with our defence running back the wrong side of player and goal.

The good thing from this is that we hit the back of the net 3 times, well done Ben P who scored again this week and to Matty who got 2 more to his tally this season.

Having got it back to 3-3 I thought we had the chance to sneak a win from this game, but we let them get the 4th and winning goal with very little time to do anything about it.

Alfie and I now know what we have to work on at training sessions hopefully getting us back on track and into winning ways again.

We have no more games now until 18 Nov when we entertain Syresham at home, enough time to try and put things right.

After the game we voted for a Man of the Match title, this week it was well earnt by our trusty goalie Dan. So next game Dan will be Captain and hopefully doing a lot of shouting from the back getting all of those in front of him working for each other.

REMEMBER GUYS, WE WIN AS A TEAM BUT WE ALSO LOOSE AS A TEAM.

Final result: Southside Stingrays 4 v 3 Hanslope Hornets

16. 10. 2006
Under 10’s updates:

To date we are running as a group with about 14 plus lads turning up to training each week, this is a good figure to work with and easy to control.

I have at present 10 people registered to play matches for HHFC, playing 7 a-side with 3 rolling subs each game. Last season we played with 5 rolling subs which was hard to do trying to ensure that everyone got a game and giving us a chance of winning as many games as we did. This is the reason why we have reduced the rolling sub situation, playing in a league were we need to earn as many points as we possibly can and not make too many changes in a short time.

I’m sure you can understand the reasons sitting behind this decision. So to even things up with the lads who are not registered to play in the league but turn up week in and week out I am going to try and get them some matches to play when we do not have any league matches to play on a Saturday morning.
I’ll do a bit of phoning around to find clubs who are in the same position as we are and get some dates sorted out and will let you know where we are shortly.

I have a kit we can use so we will just need some keen bodies to put into them. I’m sure the lads will love having a go at a full 30 minutes each way match and putting into practice some of the skills they have picked up in training.

I will try to keep it as close to home as I possibly can and get kick off’s at 10 -10.30.

Under 10’s 2006/7 (first league match)

HANSLOPE HORNETS v PITSTONE & IVINGHOE

“NEWS FLASH – POSSIBLE GOAL OF THE SEASON HAS BEEN SCORED TODAY” see below for more details:

A very important game this one for the lads, this was going to be their very first League Match ever, no more playing to have fun and not worrying too much if we got beat by a better side. No, this time around we have to win points just like the big boys do and get a standing in Division 4 to hold on to.
We were not too sure what was in front of us today as we had never met Pitstone before and we needed to get off on the right foot in the league. Well my right foot was cold and very wet before the match had even started, with the very heavy early morning dew on the grass you could almost paddle a boat between the goals !!

We are currently running with a player short having lost Daniel H for a few weeks and Gregor could only play for part of the first half before he had to dash off somewhere else, so for the majority of the game we had to play with the Magnificent 8.

This time we had to play as a team, working for each other and keeping Pitstone attacks down to a minimum each half.

Before the game Alfie and I were talking about how we should approach the game, at training on Tuesday we thought most of them were not paying too mush attention – or so we thought……………………………………

Those of you who were at the pitch side watching were in for one heck of a display.

Now I could go through this report one goal at a time but that would take too long.
It is also unfair to summarise the match too quickly as this turned out to be their best match to date.

Let’s go through one player at time and explain their contribution to this game.

Daniel E-Goal Keeper, ended up with not too much to do but kept his concentration going all of the time and when called upon to do his job he pulled off some brilliant saves. There could have been more goals against us but for Dan’s really good efforts. His big long kicks fed the guys up front and gave them the chance to attack the Pitstone goal on many occasions.

Luci C-Left Back, hardly never puts a foot wrong in a game these days and he’s playing a year up on himself. He now has command in this position and knows what he has to do without you telling him now. Also likes to go forward when we are attacking, remember when you do that you also have to run back into position. Played a good solid game and supported the rest of the defence when called upon.

Ben P-Central Defender, played an absolute blinder today. He now knows when to go forward into attack and support the lads up front and when to hold back to cover the defence positions. This week he went up to support the attack and ended up with a well timed goal, on top of that he could have got a couple more if luck had been on his side.

Ben B-Right Back, also knows what his role is without being told. He’s got a strong kick and tackles very well without any fears.
Now here’s the News Flash “If this goal from Ben doesn’t get Goal Of The Season I’ll be very surprised” In true Stevie Gerrard style he picked up a goal clearance from Pitstone 3 meters outside of their box and let fly with a tremendous right footed kick that hit the back of the net at the speed of light. WHERE ON EARTH DID THAT COME FROM?
Matt/ Melanie what ever you are feeding him before a game please let me know and I’ll pass it onto everyone else – well done young Ben.
Guys the challenge is now on to beat that as Goal of the Season.

Bradley-Right Back, came on to take over from Ben and to gain more valuable experience for matches. This guys always looks like he’s just come out of a shower after running around, he’s really getting himself so hot from chasing that ball. Brad’s now got a heck of a good tackle on him and puts it to good use, I know as I’ve felt it when we train on Tuesday nights. We’ll need to make good use of that skill in the coming weeks.

James-Central Attack, always plays to his full potential and just gets better and better in this role. His passing today was top notch, he kept feeding the 2 lads up front unselfishly. For all of his efforts he bagged a couple of well taken goals. It’s great to see his celebrations when he hits the back of the net, lets see them a few more times this season James, don’t let us stop you being top scorer.

Nathan-Attacker, he came on to pick up where Gregor left off and was always chasing around up front pulling defenders out of position and making space for the other guys to attack goal. He’s going through a Rooney spell at the moment, almost making it but hasn’t been lucky enough to hit the back of the net yet. Don’t worry as it will come back again and you will be costing your Dad a small fortune again at the end of the season.

Gregor-Attacker, didn’t get too many chances this time as he only played for a small part of the first half. I was most impressed with the fact that he knew he couldn’t play for too long but still made an effort to get there to be part of the team. Well done Tracey and many thanks for the effort made, it was most appreciated.

Mathew-Attacker, now this is what is known as a Captains Game, leading by example.
“He’s here he’s there he’s every flipping where” – you know the tune.
He walked away as a 4 goal super star this week taking some good well earned chances.
This game saw the most passing from Matt in a game I think I have ever seen – we are getting there Alfie I said it was only time, don’t let me down Matt you just keep on doing the 1 2’s and hitting the back of the net.

I was really expecting a much harder game than this but we never really allowed Pitstone to settle down into their stride.

A tremendous 8 – 1 victory was recorded for our first ever league game.

Guys check out the MKDJ7’s website and see who is on top of Division 4 this week, be proud, be very proud of what you have achieved.

The funniest thing happened at half time, having had a well deserved drink I called them all in to discuss the plan for the second half and when I looked around they had all gone off to the little wooded area at the side of the pitch and they all started to water the trees leaving me all on my own……………………………….nerves I guess?

When we got together after the game to discuss how we thought it had gone we went for the usual Man of the Match vote. By a majority vote it was decided that they all deserved to have the honour today and that was something I was not about to argue with. Well done guys you were all worthy of it this time around.

So we won our first league game in fine style, let’s try to keep it going for our match this weekend against Southside. You guys have set the standard to follow now and we have to keep it up don’t we???

We are going to be playing in the Under 10’s Division 4 this season.

TUESDAY NIGHT TRAINING SESSIONS:

Tuesday 10th October is to be the last session we have this year training on the grass; it’s now getting too dark to play safely out there. We will now move into the astro surface area at the far corner of the park and train under floodlights.

So, from Tuesday the 17th October, please do not wear studded boots for training sessions and ensure you have trainers on or better still astro boots.

Parents please remember that I will not let the lads leave the astro area at the end of the training sessions on their own and walk home alone.

I’ll need you to come up to the cage and collect them from us, that way I know they will get home safely.

Your help and co-operation with this one will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Mick

Under 10’s match report 23-9-06
Southside United HHFC v City Colts

Team Captain: Daniel H

It was like a Charles Dickens story early Saturday morning, peering through the early morning mist and fog to find a cold and very dull morning welcoming us. It had to get better, but would it…………………………….

I arrived at the school an hour before the game would start with Alfie to get the pitch all set up ready for our last grading game of the season. We got all of the flags out and the 2 big bags containing the goal sections. We headed out into the gloom to set it all up, then we spotted it. Who had nicked the pitch lines, there was not a line to be seen. All of the rain we had the night before had washed every line away, aahhh.

I had to quickly get the line machine out and make up some white mixture and try to lay down some lines for us to play in. Some of the lines I admit could have been better, but when you have nothing to follow it’s not that easy. I ended up looking like one of the children in play school after an hour of painting pictures, as much on me as on the pitch. Never letting my head drop we carry on getting ourselves ready for the game. Problem number 2 hit’s us, the ref I had lined up for the game didn’t turn up, thanks Will. Sadly I ended up having to ref the first half and had to wait until the 2nd half to get the team working towards a win. Alfie was taking the first half from the side lines and making the calls for us, I had to be independent for the whole of the 1st half, very hard to do I can assure you.

Off we go and started the game playing up the hill. This week we had a very different team playing for us, it was not the team we had last week. The team we had last week chased everything and won the ball most of the time, this team was walking around and letting Colts make all of the play. Alfie made some changes in the hope that the lads would wake up and start playing. Sadly it did not work, because of so many blunders by everyone we ended up coming in 4-0 down at half time.

The riot act was read to them in the break as they had their pieces of orange. We had to get our game together quick or get a right old roasting by Colts.

2nd half get’s on the way and we do start playing our old game again, chasing the ball and making sure we come away with it, passing and actually calling for it.

We started to make some good breaks at long last and ended up getting a penalty.
James placed the ball and stepped back, it was very quiet and both sets of supporters watched what he was about to do, a good run up and a very good strike of the ball ended up in the back of the net. Hornets were on the come back trail. HHFC 1-4 down.

We continued playing well but made a blunder and allowed Colts to shoot from close distance and pop in another goal. HHFC 1-5 down.

Heads were now dropping, so we made a couple more changes to give tied legs a chance to revive. We were still chasing around but Colts were playing a very good passing game and working well for each other, this was something HHFC failed to do today. Sadly we gave away a hand ball in the area and had a penalty against us. Again everyone went quiet as the ball was placed and struck at goal. Poor old Dan got across the goal very quickly and got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out. HHFC 1-6 down.

Not long to go now until the end of the game and the team had their heads well and truly down at this stage. Colts made one more attack on our goal and cracked in another good goal to end the game HHFC 1-7 down.

By our standards this was a very poor effort by the team, we all know we can do it because we have seen them play some wonderful football over last couple of years.

If we play as we know we can then we would give teams like City Colts a good run for their money. We’ll all try to get back on track for the first league game of the season coming up next month. We’ll need to win more game as we play now to win points and get to the top out the league we are put into.

When the League issue the games we play up to Christmas soon I’ll post the information onto this website for you all to see.

After the team talk at the end of the game we had to pick our Man of The Match for this week. A hard one to select this week, but we had to select someone. It was agreed that Matt should be the player this week as he did cover a lot of the pitch during the game. Well done Matt and I need you to keep the team on their toes next game when you will be the captain.

I know we need to work on shooting at the goal more and getting everyone working together more, we win as a team and loose as a team guys. There is no I in team remember.
Okay, there will not be any games now for a couple of weeks and I will let you know when the next one is as soon as I know.

You guys who are going to Wales on the school trip, have a good one but be good and listen to what the people there tell you. I NEED YOU ALL BACK IN ONE PIECE SO “NO” BROKEN BONES. Have a good trip and I’ll see you all in a couple of weeks.

Mick

Oh, who is doing the school 5 mile walk on the 7th, shall we all walk it together as a team with your Mums and Dads joining in. It’ll be fun so see you all there.

Under 10’s first away game of the new season match report
Southside United Stingrays v HHFC

Team Captain: Lucci C

We played one of the Southside United teams last season and had won 10-0, this was not the same team!! The lads were saying between themselves “but they have girls playing for them”, big mistake chaps as some of these girls who play these days are as good as the boys and don’t you forget it.

We were playing a man short this match (James out partying all night and sleeping over-lucky lad) so had to try and be a bit smart knowing how the legs went last week.

I had to gamble on making a couple of changes this week, we didn’t have James up front so ended up playing Dan E in James position for the first half and putting Ben B in goal. What an impact both of them made on the game in the first 10 minutes. Ben made some fantastic saves and Dan chased everything in front of him. We were making some good passes from defence going forward and gave the lads up front some very good chances. Dan was chasing down a defender as Matt hit in a shot and the poor defender ended up putting the ball into his own net. 1-0 to the Hornets.

Now this didn’t put Southside off as they started to come straight back at us, but the defensive lads stopped all of the attacks being thrown at them and put the ball back into the Southside half again. This game ended up being like a match at Wimbledon, end to end good quality football was being played by both sides.

Hornets started to get the better of Southside as their man to man tactics started to wear off as they must now have started to get some tied legs amongst them and allowed Hornets to get in closer to goal without any problems. A good cross came in and Matt didn’t need to be asked twice and slotted in a good goal. 2-0 to the Hornets.

Now this did stir up some fire in the Southside lads, they were not going to take this game sitting down any more. They came back at us quickly and caught the defence napping for once and cracked in a good goal. 2-1 to the Hornets.

Now this woke up the Hornets and they started to attack down the left side and found Matt in open space with Dan charging down the right side screaming for the ball. Matt crossed the ball in, found Dan who hit it with his RIGHT foot, yes I did say RIGHT foot and tucked it into the goal for number three. 3-1 to the Hornets.
Half time came around so quickly so we had to gather our thoughts and plan our second half as we knew Southside were not going to allow us to win this one without a fight.

Dan went back into goal and some of the defenders made way for some fresh legs to come on to defend our first half lead.

Gregor came on for his first Hornets game playing up front to replace Dan.
The second half started as the first half had finished, end to end yet again. Daniel H was playing the best game I have seen him in for a while. He had their number 8 mastered and stopped plenty of chances he was creating and getting the ball back to our forwards. On one such occasion the ball ended up with Nathan who made a great pass to Gregor who got his first Hornets goal in his first game for us, what a signing by the Manager in the closed season – well I don’t get much praise do I so I’ll go for this one today. 4-1 to the Hornets.

Again Southside didn’t like this too much so they really put the pressure on us. Our defence had to work very hard now to keep the score at 4-1. Everyone out there trying to stop them from scoring put in some good hard work and almost made it.

Southside caught us napping again and shot one past Dan. 4-2 to the Hornets.

Now this put new strength in Southside’s legs as they began to believe they could win this game so they really made us work in the last 10 minutes. We were making some quick rolling subs to make sure that no one ran out of steam. I think everyone playing this match was more than happy to hear the final whistle blow.

This for me was probably the best and most contested game we have played in. Southside tested us all the way and we on this occasion came out on top. It was non stop action and had all of the parents screaming all of the time. The ref allowed the game to flow and only had to blow his whistle a couple of times during the game.

At the end the lads congratulated each other and were pleased to be shaking hands as winners for the first time this season.

I found it very hard to pick one person out as Man Of The Match, as for me each and every one of you deserved the title this week. An absolute brilliant performance from each and everyone of you. Lets see if we can take this same attitude into our game next week at home to City Colts.

FINAL SCORE: SOUTHSIDE UNITED STINGRAYS 2 v HHFC 4

Man of The Match: Daniel H ( be very proud of this one Daniel as it was so hard to pick anyone who played better than the rest this week, well done you.)

Of course this doesn’t mean that we don’t have to work on any thing else in training on Tuesday, Alfie and I have a plan…………………………………………………..

See you all at training chaps.

Under 10’s first home game of the new season
HHFC v Sharnbrook

Team Captain: James G

First home game of the season on a nice hot sunny Saturday morning, well we started to play at mid-day because the Under 12’s were also given a home match before us.

The pitch was in fantastic condition thanks to Hanslope Combined School, well other than that hole close to the centre spot. There is a cross marked to show the spot where we kick off from, but I think the rabbits thought it was an x to mark the spot where the hidden treasure must be!! There are no carrots hidden in Mr Fancourts football pitch for rabbits to find.

We have not played Sharnbrook before so they were an unknown team to us. Hornets started off the game playing up the hill so we had it hard from the start. The lads all played very well from the kick off making good passes and putting in some good tackles. We made some good attacks on their goal and hit in some very good shots which most were on target. Sharnbrook was becoming to show themselves as a very good team, players we had to watch closely or end up paying the price.

A few minutes before half time our defence got caught out of position and let them come through with only poor old Dan to beat. Blast it was 1-0 when we should have gone in half time 0-0.
Onwards and upwards……………………

We had a good chat a half time and made a few changes to the team playing as some of the little mite had started to flag a little, not being fit in a nut shell.

We made great headway going down hill and put in lots of good attacking play. Dan had his big kick for James, Nathan and Matt to chase and they started to more around quite well making good use of their passing skills.

The defence also had to put in some good work as Sharnbrook started to show a good turn around of spirit and started to come at us again. Everyone who played defence should get a pat on the back this week as Lucci, Ben P, Ben B, Bradley and Daniel play their little socks off. I think all of team had put in so much effort that they forgot they had to play 30 minutes each way, in the hot sunshine also and one by one started to fade during the second half.

Again Sharnbrook made a good attack at us and had a very good long shot outside of the box go high and straight into our goal. Can’t blame anyone just tied legs let us down.

Everyone put in such a good effort for the first game, only good things will come of this I am sure. Lets hope we can work on a few thing in training on Tuesday and go out and win our first game next week against Southside.

FINAL SCORE: HHFC 0 v SHARNBROOK 2

Man of The Match: Lucci C

Start of the Season 2006-2007

First off guys welcome to a new season where we can achieve great things again together. We ended on a high note last season with the 10-0 win and with luck we can continue these winning ways again this season.

We have more or less the same team that finished last season playing again this year with the addition of Gregor McPherson. We sadly lost James Boyle who went to Ireland during the Summer and also Theo Pryor who has ended up going to Canada. So that means that we have lost Paul Pryor as Manager this season also. We wish them all well in their new lives and hopefully keep playing football where they are now.

So that means that I’ll take on the Managers role for the Under 10’s getting everything organised for us with Alfie Colannino coming in to complete the team. Alfie was helping us last season when Paul couldn’t make it to games and training, so he is no stranger to us and I thank him for helping and getting involved with us.
We will continue training on Tuesday nights at the park starting at 6 o’clock and ending at 7 o’clock as before. We’ll make use of our time available before it starts to get dark by training on the grass, so please ensure that you bring your studded boots with you each week. I’ll let you know when we change to training on the astro surface, you’ll need to ensure that you have the correct boots for that as we cannot use studs on that area.

If any one has any questions or problems they need to talk about then I am always available after our training sessions and will be more than willing to have a chat with you. It’s important to voice any concerns you have about the way we are running things, who knows you may come up with something we haven’t thought of !!

Let’s ensure that we have another good season together and hopefully we can pull in some good results. We will be playing some Grading Games during September as we are playing in Divisions this season, so points will be important to us. When we have completed the grading games the league will analyse the results and drop all of the teams in the Under 10’s league into the most appropriate division according to ability. At least we all end up in a division where we should end meeting teams of an equal standard so should end up with some good games in front of us.

See you all at training trying to get ourselves – yes me as well – fit for what lies ahead of us.
GOOD LUCK HORNETS
Mick
